Here's a step-by-step guide from our library for using Overdrive e-books. It's very similar for other libraries. In order to use it, you first need a valid library card. Contact your local library if you don't already have one.
Step-by-Step Guide to Overdrive e-books

To access Overdrive for downloading library books go to:
www.overdrive.com
There you can search for a library in your area that lends books by entering its name or city or your zip code.
If you click on the name of the branch you want, it will display a new screen with the branch's name and address plus the name of the local library system it's part of and a link to the web-site that system uses to access Overdrive.

In Monroe County, New York, that web-site is:
overdrive.libraryweb.org

To put e-books onto your e-reader you need to download and use Adobe Digital Editions which you can get at:
www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions
or OverDrive Media Console for Apple or Google Android based e-readers which you can get at:
www.overdrive.com/software/omc/

If your library participates in LEAP - the Library eBook Accessibility Program and you are certified as print impaired you may be eligible for a free subscription to Bookshare, which we discussed in ViewPoints #1111.
